Many years ago I worked in the R&D dept. for a large food & beverage company. Every year they hosted a chili contest. Up against culinary chefs and people with food science degrees, it’s mind blowing that little ole’ me won. I take my infamous chili recipe and wrap it inside a cheddar cornmeal crust, a fun play to mimic cheesy cornbread. This is my signature bake because it combines my creative love for cooking and baking.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
My favorite person to bake for is my dad. He found love and joy in the kitchen right around the same time that I did. We shared the love of standing over a hot oven together. One of my favorite past times is cooking with him, trying to make the next best pasta dish. It was then that I started baking more and he was always first in line to taste. His two favorites of mine are my Earl Grey Tea Shortbread and my Shepherds Pot Pie.
How would you use the $10,000?
I would use 100% of the winnings to kick start The Great Outdoors Bakery, a mobile bakery traveling to outdoor events and destinations. Taking my love for hiking and camping and blending my passion for baking is my dream come true. Living in the PNW is the icing on the cake. So many people love the great outdoors and also their buttery carbs. Why not give the people what we want?!
