Our challah is our signature item! I have no idea why it’s so popular. It’s sort of sweet, similar to a King’s Hawaiian - with the texture of a perfect Rhoads Roll. We started in 2020 when you couldn’t find bread at the grocery store. I think people had just never had a bread like this. It’s beautiful. It’s tasty. It’s soft. I think people associated it with comfort, and it’s been popular since.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
My favorite people to bake for is this couple I know, they were my old bosses and introduced me to fine dining, creative flavor profiles, and high standards. If a recipe doesn’t sit well with them, it’s back to the drawing board. Travis Evans is the Head Chef of The Crafty Dog in Kearney, with his wife Sara as the Sous Chef. I aspire to be as creative in the kitchen as they are. They are my inspiration.
How would you use the $10,000?
We’ve been wanting to turn our home bakery into the real thing. To bring coffee and great Jewish baked goods to our community. It would be incredible to be able to put this money towards that dream.
