Baklava, hands down, is my signature pastry I love making. It's a recipe that connects me with my family, both new and old. The recipe was brought here from my great-grandmother during world war 2, it was one of the few items she brought here to the United States. When I was in school, my master chef tasted it and affirmed that it was the best baklava he's ever tasted. I swear it's because the recipe is packed with love.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
This is a hard question, because I love baking for everyone, but at the end of the day all of my first trials go to my mom. She's the first person I learned to bake with, and she's still the first person I go to when testing a new technique or recipe. She's always been the most encouraging person in my life, and even when I would mess up on a recipe she kept me going. Currently, her favorite pastry from me are my scones. Sometimes they don't last a day here!
How would you use the $10,000?
I would use the $10,000 to go towards opening a food truck. My lifelong dream is to open my own bakery, and a food truck would be the best stepping stone to achieving that goal.
