My signature bake is my sourdough conchas — a soft, slightly sweet Mexican bread topped with a delicate sugar shell that cracks as it bakes. Each one is made with patience and love for tradition. They’ve become my most popular bake because they bridge two worlds that mean so much to me: the artistry of sourdough, and the warmth and heritage of my Mexican roots. Every concha feels like a little piece of both — honoring my family’s culture while celebrating the slow craft of fermentation.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
My favorite people to bake for are my husband and children. Nothing compares to the feeling of nurturing their bodies and soul with something made by my own hands — something that took time, effort and love. What I bake for them lasts longer than the bread itself — it becomes a memory, a feeling, a comfort that I hope stays with them long after I’m gone. In that way, each loaf, each concha, carries a piece of me that will keep living in their hearts and minds.
How would you use the $10,000?
I would use the $10,000 to pay off our family vehicle! It would also let me invest in better equipment and build Sunrise Crust Co. with faith and stability instead of worry. More than anything, it would be a chance to keep doing what I love — creating from the heart, providing for my family, and trusting that God can turn small beginnings into something beautiful!
