My signature bake is a German Yeast Cake. It’s a bread-like cinnamon roll shaped into a French braid, topped with a lemon confectioners’ frosting—or sometimes an orange-flavored one—and filled with almonds and golden raisins. This cake holds special memories from my childhood. Our neighbor and family friend used to bake it for everyone during the holidays, and later my mom carried on the tradition. Now, I continue baking it myself, keeping that tradition alive and sharing it with my family.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
My family is the persons I bake for and my staff at work and I only bake during the holidays and often bake 7-8 German Yeast cake and 6 flan of not more. I bake far more yeast cakes and flan equally for them and often bake chocolate candy with peanuts.
How would you use the $10,000?
If I had the opportunity, I would buy new mixers, a cake frosting machine, replace all my baking pans, and stock up on all my baking spices and supplies. I’d also love to take a class to learn how to pipe frosting—and hopefully go on a vacation, too. What’s most important to me is getting new mixers and kitchen equipment to make baking easier and more enjoyable. Having the right tools would definitely inspire me to bake even more.
