My signature bake has to be my Fernandina Beach pie. I was raised in Fernandina Beach and also raised my son there. I had a pie that was part lime, part lemon in South Carolina at a baby shower quite a while ago. I thought, I bet I can make something like that my own. I remade the pie to include Florida's signature fruit, the navel orange. With a sweet and salty crust made from saltine crackers, sugar and butter, the tangy filling is made from sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks and juices.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
My husband is the person I like to bake for the most. He enjoys trying all new things, but his favorite is a hummingbird cake, I make it for his birthday every year.
How would you use the $10,000?
I would use the $10,000 to help me get to my dream of either staying at home and baking, or to build a bakery to call my own.
