My signature bake is my award-winning churro cupcakes: fluffy vanilla cake topped with cinnamon crunch, cloud-like cinnamon buttercream, and a drizzle of homemade caramel. They won First Place and Best in Show at our county fair, and people can’t get enough of the layers of texture and perfectly balanced flavors.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
My favorite person to bake for was my grandma. Even though she’s passed, I still bake every recipe as if it’s for her. She loved my sugar cookies most, and every Christmas I make hundreds of cookies to share with friends and family. Whenever I bake cookies for someone, it feels like I’m baking for her again.
How would you use the $10,000?
I would use the $10,000 to pour back into my community through the baking and cooking classes I teach. I work with a local non-profit art center and volunteer at the Y, and this prize would help me offer more classes, reach more people, and teach essential cooking skills everyone deserves to know. (I’d also immediately buy a new stand mixer; my arms might fall off if I whip anymore buttercream!)
