How do you make crumb cake even better? Add a layer of raspberry jam! This cake has a cult following with my friends, family and customers. It strikes the perfect balance of soft vanilla cake, generous and firm crumbs on top with just the right amount of sweetness. The square shape makes it easy to cut and share. Or keep it all to yourself, ha! It holds a special place in my heart, too, as it was one of my mom’s favorites.
Who is your favorite person to bake for and what do you make most for them?
I love when the neighborhood kids come to my table with a look of excitement, wanting to try the latest treats! However, my daughter is my favorite person to bake for. She loves most things I bake, but also is my best critic! My bakes improve because of her feedback I made a Wonder Woman-themed birthday cake for her 7th birthday. I struggled with decorating the cake. She looked at me and said ‘mom, it’s not your best.’ She’s 15 now and still doesn’t mince words. Crumb cake is her favorite!
How would you use the $10,000?
I would use some of the money to invest in a dough sheeter. I hate rolling dough and it’s so tricky to get it even! I have many fights with my rolling pin, and my shoulders are paying the price. I also believe in giving back to my community. As a Girl Scout troop leader, I believe in showing girls how to lead- whether it’s in the kitchen or in the board room. I’d fund the food and business related badges so girls can learn how to bake cookies, and learn about setting up a successful business.
